Anthony Ryburn

Anthony is special counsel in McCabes’ Insurance Division, within the General Liability group.

He has extensive experience representing NSW Government clients in complex intentional tort and personal injury claims, with a particular focus on institutional abuse matters, including complex, sensitive, high-quantum and multi-party claims. He also has broad experience defending claims involving false imprisonment, prison assaults and nervous shock, and has advised and acted on behalf of the Attorney General of NSW. He has a wide experience in the field of civil litigation and has previously acted on behalf of NSW Government agencies in coronial inquests, including as Counsel Assisting the Coroner and representing Corrective Services NSW.

Drawing on a strong background in public sector litigation and government decision-making, Anthony brings a strategic, trauma-informed and pragmatic approach to resolving sensitive claims. He is known for mentoring and leading teams, deep technical expertise, strong stakeholder relationships, and having a commercially focused approach aimed at achieving early, cost-effective resolutions while minimising reputational and financial risk for clients.
